Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Low cost UK holiday are what Britons want in 2009

Click the link above to see the full story.

60% of people planning a holiday of £500 or less, campsites, seaside hotels, B and Bs and coach and caravan companies all expected to benefit. Twice as many holidaymakers plan to prioritise cost over convenience. The most popular destinations will be the traditional seaside resorts.

Shame - we could have taken 400 of them each night here in Seaton had the holiday camp stayed open, now we can take a tiny handful. Still, Sidmouth will reap the benefits so we must be grateful for that mustn't we!

Not aware there was a holiday camp in Sidmouth. Truth is, those people who formerly looked to Lyme Bay holiday camp for a break will now travel to a similar place far from here. There will be no local benefit at all. At least if they were in Sidmouth they might travel over here for the tram or Pecorama. Instead, local businesses and attractions will have to work harder with their publicity, persuading daytrippers to visit. Once they're here their impression of the place - and the likelyhood of their spreading good news about Seaton - will be shaped by the general ambience of the town. So lets tart up the paintwork and put the bunting out. Oops, can't afford the bunting this year! At least Woolies had the decency to touch up the decor before they went bust.

Well it could be Stoneleigh which is owned by the same people as Seaton heights as that is chalets and a club house.

I think we are OK for bunting this year but not for banners.

I agree about tarting the place up but which shopkeeper do you think will start the process. Daniel and Alexander looks good and I've seen Eves jewellry get a new coat of paint but nowhere else. The George pub could certainly do with it.

And the painting of Woolworths only came about because of a lot of badgering and local bad press.

But its our grim seafront that needs the most attention.

The George has just been painted but how cheaply, not a good job! Has anybody noticed how dead this town is now there is no holiday camp! Glad I am leaving the place!!
