Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Racal site

Good to hear from the owners of the Racal site that they are demolishing because they will have a planning application in soon. Particularly glad that their reason isn't that ,under the new legislation, the site will attract business rates if it has an empty building on it but no business rates if there is no building on it.

I expect that, just like Tesco and Liatris before them, they have the best interests of Seaton at heart!

I notice, according to the 'View From Seaton' that they intend to build 'luxury housing and, possibly, retail and leisure facilities' (for possibly read not likely).
It would be better if they could put their quest for great profits aside and settle for slightly less in order to accomodate the need for local employment and affordable housing. It would also be a good site for holiday accomodation - maybe a nice hotel, and a public promonade along the estuary that all could enjoy. After all they themselves say "It is the gateway to Seaton, so we want to have something really special there".

What are you betting that the holiday camp will be demolished in the blink of an eye after it closes.
