Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Planning application in - and its bad news everyone

Well it's in and it is as bad as we expected - houses and shops - lots of houses, some shops. The files and press release can be found here and you can all see for yourselves. And enjoy the press release - but if you suffer from high blood pressure, probably best to leave it until you have taken your medication.

The period for objecting has been extended to: 26 JANUARY 2007.

Let battle commence - it may be David versus Goliath - but remember, David won!
More soon .....

Is it me, or have all they changed since the last plan is the location of the non-supermarket retail??

The press release is laughable "extensive public consultation". I don't think so.

Oh, nice that we *might* get community facilities..... creche or a gym....how about BOTH in concrete, not a vague promise.

And the remarks about re-defining tourism in Seaton. If you mean obliterating it forever. Yes I suppose that is a way to re-define it...How is tourism in Harrogate these day? I don't know, because its in Yorkshire, not Devon. Funny that eh Mr Dinham. Seems YOU have the same problem...

Thanks for putting these up Sandra. I have my "David sling" at the ready....

Apart from the obvious trainwreck that the Liatris plan is, I note that the PR was done by a company who says...."creative Public Relations and Marketing campaigns" Yep, I'd go with the creative bit, fantasy even if they like.

Of course their palms will be greased by the TD partnership out of the slice TD will take for putting Seaton ooh 2 metres under.

I am disappointed by the response from Martyn Harrison. And what about the hotel mentioned in the press release? I think my eyesight is failing, I can't find most of the things in the EDDC development brief in the plans. Pass the telescope or the valium

Hi Chris
Yes the hotel is part of someone else's plan, not Liatris' and as you can see, isn't built yet (so your eyesight is fine). But that hasn't stopped them deftly appropriating it into their PR whilst shrugging off any worries about their own plan's shortcomings

By the way, the reason only 386 houses are shown and not 450 is that a bit of the regeneration area has been left out. It turns out this area is part of Riverside Workshops, which will have to be relocated if they build on that bit. However, they have shown it with houses on it, so presumably they know something we don't know.
