Stand Up For Seaton (SU4S)

Community Action for Seaton's Regeneration Area, 80% owned by Tesco - a floodplain on a World Heritage site bordered by nature reserves, tidal river, the sea and the unspoilt town. SU4S is a state of mind - no members, no structure, no politics. SU4S has objected to 2 planning applications by Tesco, including one for a massive superstore/dot com distribution centre which led to the recent closure on the site of 400 tourist beds with the loss of 150 jobs,a gym and pool - all used by locals.

Nice interview - but the Council rep lied about the Holiday Village not being included. Or maybe they just haven't read the papers yet, after all its only Seaton, not like it was somewhere important. Make your views known on the Radio Devon lunchtime phone in on 0845 301 1034

How dare you think of selling off Council Property, why not start with the EDDC Offices.Where are people going to park. Say good bye to the Grissly.
Make Seat town Council and the Traders clean & paint the town,Police it properly, put up more houses, you must be joking they are building on every square foot of Brown Feild site they can find, one can buy a house in any part of Seaton. Its NOT houses we wanr but Jobs,Visitors and a Respectable Town,Back off you money Mad developers, Leave Seaton alone EDDC

Interesting that Sarah Randall-Johnson made that distinction, considering the EDDC are supposed to view the regeneration as a comprehensive plan for the entire area. Yet here's the exec head suggesting that doesn't hold true, at the same time Karime Hassan wants to deal with only one of the interested parties.
Doesn't sound comprehensive to me.

Perhaps both of them need dictionaries for xmas...

I'll leave the rest of that sentence out, I'm feeling nice.

listening again to the interview SRJ said the holiay camp was a commercial decision for its management. So I'm sure she does realise the two are linked, but she thought she could fool Seaton.

Yes that's a complete lie, Liatris, as we know, are the landowner to the holiday camp, they have a clause in their deal with the camp to quit the site if a planning approval goes thru.
The Holiday Camp management have no say in this.

Writing this after attending the meeting. Councillor Deakin(?) kept on about the people of Seaton deciding that they wanted the wetlands and visitor centre and gateway (almost suggesting that we should be grateful for them for finding a way of funding them for us). Firstly who asked the people of Seaton if they wanted those things and secondly did they tell them that it might be at the expense of a youth centre, tourism and leisure facilities? I don't think so, so who the hell is he to tell us what we want?

Secondly, why would any developer buy blind? If this has absolutely no connection with them getting planning permission, then why would they spend good money on buying it? I may be naive but I don't see them as gamblers or benefactors so there is no way they would buy this land without a good chance of their current development plan being passed.

And if the EDDC is not in bed with Liatris, then why not make the report recommendations read "any developer" not "the developer" and keep it open for any developer to perhaps now come up with their own scheme in light of the council's willingness to sell that particular parcel? (Incidentally, what other developer had that Seaton Councillor being talking to?)

And again why the rush?

congratulations, Sandra, on organising a good protest at the Executive Board meeting. I for one, will be e-mailing members to say what I thought of the repeated claims to have visited Seaton for one short meeting in the Town Hall and therefore to know what Seaton wants! That meeting was attended by only about the same number who turned up today at the Knowle - and they didn't bother to tell us then what price we would have to pay.

Well said Chris
I was the guy nodding no at Cllr Wilkinson. The problem with accepting that report is exactly as you describe. It's not about "any" developer, it was written for Liatris/Silver/jj holdings. For them not to accepyt that point and accept the report would suggest the Liatris plan is the preferred option. Note that despite demands for adjournment, they ignored it, that's the least Seaton deserves.
I hope those who think there's still an option of negotiating with this pile of excrement think twice...they are not to be trusted.

And secondly...

It was refreshing to hear that they voted to remove that phrase from recommendation 1 to give Karime Hassan "delegated powers", for an elected executive to hand out said power to negotiate a multi-million pound deal to a non-elected and therefore not democratically elected council employee would be scandalous...yet he asked for just that.
It's akin to the person cleaning the eddc loos to make a decision affecting say, Sidmouth hoteliers.

But the tint of "no consultation" still smells.

I did write to each of these people, a polite letter, but only one person had the courtesy to reply, and he answered none of my questions. They don't seem to want to talk to us, do they. they are supposed to be working for us. Our voices are not loud enough to carry all the way to Sidmouth.
